Il Convento risale al 1426, ad opera del beato Matteo d'Agrigento, la costruzione del primo piano del convento col chiostro. Il convento, nel 1578, passò ai Frati Riformati.
San Benedetto da San Fratello ne fu il primo guardiano, dando inizio alla costruzione del secondo piano.
La chiesa del convento, durante i secoli, è stata spesso modificata. La prima grande modifica risale al 1495, quando cioè D. Gaspare Bonetti donò la sua cappella funeraria che era poggiata al muro esperno della chiesa. Lì furono poste due colonne per sostenere un piano superiore (il coro) e si aprì la porta principale a ponente. Ai lati della porta si trovano pilastri istoriati con mezzi busti dei dodici apostoli e sull'architrave una scultura ad alto rilievo rappresentante l'Eterno Padre attorniato da angeli.
Nell'abside vi è un affresco raffigurante la Vergine Maria attorniata da angeli. Dietro l'abside vi è una finestra chiusa d'intaglio con scolpito il nome di Gesù.
Il chiostro, quadrilatero di stile quattrocentesco è di proporzionata grandezza, fu edificato ai tempi del Beato matteo di Agrigento. Le colonne sono tozze, i capitelli appena sbozzati, tutto l'ambiente ispira raccoglimento ed elevazione spirituale. Al centro del chiostro è posta una fontana adornata da maioliche.
Il convento sorge alle falde del monte Grifone. Attraverso viottoli e sentieri, tra olivi, querce e mandorli, è possibile giungere a dei romitori un tempo frequentati dai frati per raccogliersi in orazione e far penitenza; tra questi religiosi il venerabile Innocenzo da Chiusa e S. Benedetto da S. Fratello.
First floor and cloister of friary arise at 1426 by blessed Matteo of Agrigento. In 1578 friary passed to Reformation friars. Saint Benedict from San Fratello was the first guardian, and built its second floor. The church during the years had been changed several times. The first big changing arise at 1495 when Gaspare Bonetti gave his funerary chapel which rested on the external church’s walls. There were built two columns to support the choir and also it was opened a western main entrance. At the sides door there are storied pillars and twelve apostles’ half-length and on the lintel a high-relief sculpture portraying the Eternal Father surrounded by angels. In apse there is a fresco portraying the Virgin Mary surrounded by angels. Behind apse there is an intaglio closed window with the Holy Name of Jesus sculptured. The four-sided Quattrocento style cloister is proportionate size, it was built by Blessed Matteo of Agrigento. The columns are squats, the capitals just rough-hewed, all this place inspires meditation and spiritual elevation. In the centre there is a majolica’s adorned fountain. Friary arises at the foot of the Grifone mountain. Throughout paths, among olives, oaks and almonds it reaches to some hermitages one time lived by friars to pray and to do penances; one of this was Venerable Innocenzo from Chiusa and Saint Benedict from San Fratello.
